Named after the American Record Producer and Rapper, 88 Keys opened up its doors a little more than 2 months ago in the hip and happening area of Essendon. This side of town is really booming with specialty coffee cafes and breakfast joints on almost every corner of each street. Nevertheless, 88 keys stays true to its name and style it has developed being remotely different to the typical new age cafes being opened up almost every week in Melbourne (next door Captain Grey is one example). On first visit, the brothers who run this place are very welcoming and are constantly checking in on you making sure you walk out a very happy customer. The space has been fitted out with a casual, relaxing vibe to it. With a couple of bean bags scattered at the back, they've made it a space you can come chill out with some friends and even family. The kids will definitely enjoy jumping on them for a little entertainment and the bros don't mind it at all. They Read more...
Tahini Lebanese Diner is hidden smack bang in the middle of the city. We casually found this place while looking for a halal place to eat as the one we initially went into was no longer halal. Starved and hangry I was desperate for food. I was so relieved to have stumbled across this gem while walking through what seemed like a food junction for workers during lunch and there lies this beautifully designed restaurant around the corner. The ultimate giveaway was the arabic signage which I couldn't understand but made me ask the staff if it was halal and she gladly replied that it was fully halal. It is licensed though as I noticed a couple of alcoholic drinks down the back. But I was indeed starving and all I wanted to do was eat. You know when you're hungry any food tastes good? Well, what happens if the food is extremely delicious? That would mean my tastebuds and hunger were fully satisfied! I couldn't believe how amazingly good something sim Read more...
Last time I came here was 2014 and we enjoyed the duck egg and french toast. Fast forward almost two years later it's good to know they are still on the menu. Nothing much has changed here at Ascot Food Store but that doesn't mean anything bad at all. In fact, they don't need to change because they're THAT good. If you don't believe me, have a look at their instagram. Their 10k+ followers and mouth watering pictures will convince you. AFS has pretty much set the standard of for cafe quality food and coffee in this hood. Where else can you find a lobster burger, duck egg, apple wood smoked ocean trout and a whole elongated list of items on their menu all with a presentation to kill. Not to mention halal! Yes, it was very hard to believe that this place is halal but it is. We had to confirm a few times verbally and in writing (no certificate though) and yes, it is. I have a feeling it might have something to do with Shane Delia who owns Maha, Big Read more...
You can never go wrong at Papparich and every meal will never be a disappointment, each and every time you come. Even if you end up having the same meal over and over again, it will still be as good as the first time you've tried it. The best Malaysian restaurant in Melbourne with locations all around. Tastes exactly like home. Their roti is soft yet flakey and buttery so it melts in your mouth. Match it with the curry! There are heaps to choose from whether you like a sweet or savoury option, everything on the menu is a must try.
Al Alamy brings a little piece of Lebanon in Melbourne. You'll find all your Middle Eastern groceries and a nice variety of ma'noush too! Decent prices and can get quite busy and packed at times. When a place gets crowded, you know it must be good.
A lot of different burgers and so many to choose from you'll have to come back again to try them all. Most of which are under $12 and their cheapest burger which is the Cheeseburger is around $7 and they use lean meat patties in their burgers too so its such a good alternative to Maccas. Their chips are chunky and addictive. Decor is a bit of everything and kind of retro but it suits the theme they're going for, which is a burger lounge for locals to come and relax and enjoy some good food. All halal and muslim owned.
